Bidirectional Reflectance Factor Analysis from Field Radiometry and HyMap data

چکیده
Vegetation canopies like most of the natural surfaces reflect the incoming radiation flux in an anisotropic way. Thereby, for an adequate interpretation of the reflectance, we should geometrically characterise the reflecting properties of the surfaces. The basic function that characterises the angular dependence of the reflectance is the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF), which is -by definitiona non-measurable quantity due to involving infinitesimal solid angle, and therefore without measurable radiation, for all existing geometries [1]. However, we can estimate the BRDF of natural surfaces by means of the Bidirectional Reflectance Factor (BRF), which is defined for conical solid angle, and so involves measurable radiation quantities, for a limited set of all possible geometries.

Shifted sinusoidal illumination patterns are useful for appearance capture because they simultaneously separate local and non-local reflections and allow the recovery of surface geometry. Here we show that the same illumination patterns can be used to estimate the local surface reflectance (BRDF) as well, provided that an appropriate correction factor is applied. We derive a closed-form express...

Remote sensing has shown promise for predicting grain protein content for winter cereals, with satellite image data acquired near flowering, being significantly correlated with grain protein of wheat and barley crops. The use of commercially available satellite or airborne imagery to map grain protein content would allow growers and marketers the ability to evaluate crop performance and provide...

Spectral reflectance in the visible and near-infrared offers a rapid and inexpensive technique for determining the mineralogy of samples and obtaining information on chemical composition. Absorption-band parameters such as the position, depth, width, and asymmetry of the feature have been used to quantitatively estimate composition of samples from hyperspectral field and laboratory reflectance ...

Anisotropic reflectance behavior is typical for all natural surfaces. The targetand wavelength-specific characteristics of this physical phenomenon may be expressed by the conceptual quantity of the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF). On the one hand, characterization of the BRDF may enable to better estimate biophysical and biochemical as well as structural parameters of th...
